It Poem by Kerri White

It

It's an instantaneous awareness
that something's there-
wherever "there" is-
but you just can't identify it.

It's suddenly knowing
there's a greater chance than not
that everything in your life
will twist itself into being meaningful,
causing genuine smiles unlike the ones you've replicated before.

It's remembering
how things once were,
and honestly hoping
they never go back to being that way.
Sometimes reality checks are only inches away…

It's admitting inside
nothing was time wasted.
moments happened only as mandatory prerequisites,
and without them, your foundation might be a little less enduring.

It's hearing lyrics to a song
you've known for so many years
and finally being able to realize their significance,
secretly wishing yourself as equally perceptive all along.
Time won't stand still for a second, not even if you petition its mercy…

It's knowing now
exactly what "it" means,
but still needing to know
exactly what "it" is…
