Iron Butterfly Poem by Yvette Sweet

Iron Butterfly

Once upon a time I lived my life freely unencumbered by trivial matters such as gravity.

I was free to define the winds with my sheer presence. Free to be wonderful me.

Beautiful black, gold, and green wings splashed with hints of silver; I soared throughout the heavens. The sky had no limits and the earth’s terrain was wide and vast.

Whenever anyone saw me they commented with delight. I teased their senses with my majesty; and with stealth and grace I always eluded captivity.

But that was then and this is now for I have become your iron butterfly. Bound to earth I no longer have the magical ability to defy gravity or to define and sculpt the wind. My colors have fades fast and those who view me now can only recount stories about my once glorious past.
