Inverleigh Poem by Francis Duggan

Inverleigh

The pleasant aroma that wafts in the breeze
Of shrubs of lavender and the peppercorn trees
That grow in the gardens of Inverleigh a quiet Country Town
For it's beauty alone it deserves more renown.

Here life it goes on at a leisurely pace
One could happily live in such a tranquil place
No smoky factory chimney polluting the air
One might say such places are becoming rare.

Small flocks of silver eyes searching for insects from trees
to shubs fly
And the sun it is hidden in the gray cloudy sky
But the weather not cold around eighteen degrees
And days such as this few people would not please.

In quiet Inverleigh on the road to Geelong
The butcherbirds and shrike thrushes and the magpies are in song
On a day in July the warm Winter breeze
Blow out Nature's sweet aroma from the shrubs and the trees.
