Insanity Poem by John Masaitis

Insanity

There we sat three in a crowd
I was not present this time around.
Oh, how pathetic these two are
Craving a fix from the devil's cigar.
Their pain and suffering will leave no scar
Their disease I witnessed, pure evil by far.

A nice girl she seemed to be
But close the door she is not free.
Half naked lying on the floor
Her body and mind now at war.
She screams and begs please give me more
The White Demon is one never to ignore
The suffering of souls he does adore.

Now there he was wanting her
Lips twitching everything a blur.
He sat with her in the dark
Her love, her pipe, they shared a spark.
A sober soul outside looking in
I could see insanity their evil twin.

There they sat playing their game
And all they had left to their name:

A light beer
Pill bottle
Cigarettes
A screw
Ashes
Money tree.
You want some?
Not me.

Her dignity gone crawling on the ground
Searching for something that will never be found.
I laughed to myself, thinking what fools
their life spent jonzing where paranoia rules.
Searching for that piece of mind
Two lost souls blind leading the blind
Happiness they shall never find.
Their punishment an eternity
Always craving sanity.
