Innocent Minds Poem by Anna Ragin

Innocent Minds

Not easily loved
Your heart remains broken
Hurt by words that remain unspoken

Innocent to the heart
Good to the soul

You feel insignificant, but you’ll play an important role

Though words may hurt you and put you down
You’re always something more, your head held up proud

Defending the weak
Loving the hated
Your words and actions remain untainted

Not following the world and its hateful ways
You remain unique in every way

People sneering at your actions and deeds
Not even realizing the true need
To show what’s right and morally wrong
They remain oblivious to the repeating song
Stuck in repeat, playing over and over

The words engraved in their minds
They don’t even realize they’re stuck in time
Too stuck in their ways to understand

The injustice they’ve done to an innocent man

So when will they realize this, when will they see
The crime they’re committing against you and me

Maybe someday, maybe never
But stay strong and we can find out together.
