Innocence Poem by Nellie Isabelle Steward Cooper

Innocence

Innocence is in a sense a not knowing of things
or shall we say: (just being oblivious to things that
may happen, transpire, or otherwise take place) in
the real world around us....or perhaps in a different place,
especially in our countless visits to outer space

Being unaware that life... at times... can really be a bear

A very innocent face is presented so very innocent
and it is also an honest face, (a very-very honest face)
but not quite as well informed a face as some faces
we have grown to know.. the unaware

If any of you should care

Thus we usually say in a hushed and (in low inaudible tone)
or perhaps we may think, (in low inaudible tone) really
how can this person be so, so naïve.. so ill-informed...

Judgement with an over abundance of scorn

Such a person may stand before you now at this
very moment! ! !

Be very careful... tippy toe careful... lest one should hear

Is it someone that we should avoid and fear! ! !

We may even marvel and wonder at such a bizarre reality.
Is it all but a grand illusion or did we actually
experience this? ? ?

But who will listen to us, we cannot wait to tell so-in-so about it and for sure they had better not be fast asleep when we are ready to recount the event or they will certainly be awakened to listen....because this is very important

To know what might be in store... and more.. so much more

Yes extremely important is this event,
it has become an event not just my living
through another long and torturous day
without a grande occurrence to sort or report
I shall relay this to you live and in person

Thus comes my report to you on innocence
a report of which I indeed feel certain

But as I approach and come near
to our cozy little dwelling place... I see
no lites and I hear nary a sound
as I have heard many-many times before

Then suddenly as a calm and quiet surrounds me, all I hear is the sound of a very loud and steady snore....

snore, snore, snore

Innocence
