Inner Peace Poem by Addy Adenawo

Inner Peace

Inner peace she seek
In the dregs of insanity
When rivers run too cold
And the gallow draws close

When the crow's cry
Shrilly ring in the sky
Drowning her screams
Of the despair you bring

Shredded hopes
Looped around her like ropes
Battered dreams
Crumbling in defeat

Love lost, never to be found
Though hundreds gathered like ants
All came for the show
Just to see her head roll

A show they would see
Pride would lift her to her feet
With raised eyes to the sky
Even as the blade begin to rise

Swiftly as it came
Worries lost in yesterday
Like salt dissolved in water
Inner peace washed over her
