Indifference Poem by C Richard Miles

Indifference

Rating: 5.0

Indifference can cut more deep than hate
And cause more hurt than infidelity,
For who can bear its deadening, tepid heat
And not emerge with aught but apathy
That leaves them in an unfulfilling state,
Unknowing if to go or if to stay?
For there can be no sweet revenge to mete,
If no strong reason justifies its sway
And, either much too soon or much too late,
The stark realisation comes to light:
That only were there circumstance to beat
And kill the inattention out of sight,
Then triumph would soon re-engender gain
And cognisance would render end to pain.
