Independence Means? Poem by sailaja mithra

Independence Means?

Broiled with ordeal this country once
Became a base for white mascots, until dawn
Forgetting early rise, corrupting all the while
With foes before, owls behind
Counting dusty webbed days
Insulting inhumane history
Is that all independence mean?

Startled with ghastly stints
With blood soaked mornings
Night that remain as in ocean jaws
Tremble and dropp flakes of hopes
Like an untimely unfortune lady
Sheltering under ragged map
Is what independence called?

Midnight that’s unsure about tomorrow
Refuging poisonous culture that come along
Ill-gotten cheap currency to hands
Stashing in foreign sacs
Chair to chair, power to power
Playing powered chair game
Wildly craving to
Gang-up for crore
Is that all independence mean?

Running for power, sqeaking for position
Makin ordinary lives a base ball game
Child laborer short live
In sheer exploitation
Bomb that’s game of games now!

Never it’s called independence
Freedom doesn’t pertain to one
Equality isn’t anyone’s sum
Sky, earth, water, wind are every one’s
Mother and attachment are ours
Sharing all which independence means!
