Inca Dove Poem by Juan Olivarez

Inca Dove

Little dove on the telephone wire,
Singing away, to your hearts desire.
That melancholy song so blue,
Makes my soul so sad for you.
And my heart breaks for you too.

Little Inca Dove, so tiny and small,
Is there someone who will heed your call?
High up on that wire you seem so alone,
As your entire life you seem to bemoan.
Maybe it's time you headed for home.
