In The Kitchen Poem by MaryLisa Russo

In The Kitchen

I set the table today
And saw your face
Starving
Staring up from the plate
I am hungry
You taste of salt
Of organic honey
Of creamy butter
Of homemade wine
My tongue is tied
My lips are seasoned
My eyes are delirious
Are you the kitchen
Tucked away
In my soul? ? ?
Mock me you shall...
But I will devour you
And feel you slip
Down my throat
Near my wayward heart
To my waiting stomach
Oh look...
A mocking bird
Winking
I find...
I am no longer hungry
For what you have
To offer....
The kitchen,
Is therefore,
Closed.
