In The Heart Of Every Migrant Poem by Francis Duggan

In The Heart Of Every Migrant

I fancy I can hear the robin singing at the dawning of the day
As a red Summer sun is rising o'er a brown hill far away
And a new mown meadow scent sweetly of the sweetness of hay
And the memory of such beauty for a lifetime with one stay.

For the tri colour of my Homeland I have never shed a tear
Though the songbirds of the woodlands in flights of fancy I can hear
Some are moved by patriotism and love of their home Country
But the wonders of Mother Nature have always meant more to me.

In the heart of every migrant nostalgia never dies
And the memories of the old hills can bring teardrops to the eyes
The skylark he is carolling as up towards the clouds he fly
And his pleasant notes are ringing in the stillness of the sky.

I fancy I can hear the chaffinch singing with the sunshine on his pink breast
And the hen pheasant in the high grass she sits quietly in her nest
And in the heart of every migrant nostalgia will live on
Though the sense of patriotism from most of them has gone.
