In Retrospect Poem by Nathaniel Graves

In Retrospect

In retrospect;
My mind wearies,
But my thoughts don't lie.
They may pretend,
But they don't intend...
Any harm, that is.
I may be
Traversing
The boards of my soul –
Will, if you will –
But my memory says
True
Of what my life says
False.

In retrospect;
I have a dream,
An unattainable want,
A relentless desire,
That only time can satisfy,
Even in the darkest of
Nights.
No...
Especially the darkest,
And especially the nightlyest,
For nocturnal
Trends the lust
Of the darkly dark,
And the nightly peace.

In retrospect;
Satisfaction guaranteed,
But only if time
Is compliant
And willing to accept
The fact that
Tedious breeds
Killing sprees,
And I
Will wait no longer
Than longer should wait,
Because
When death do us part,
Death lied by not doing its part...

In retrospect...
The theory of one's
Theory,
Should be the theory of one's
Heart.
