In Peace And In Rest Poem by Steve Santerre

In Peace And In Rest

Freeing the self from pain, the test I say
The darkness we swim through, sunken in sorrow.
Life to which we yearn to upkeep, just one more day we say.
The struggle so great, the heavy waves, the twists, the turns
Unseen and unheard of is the force of fate
Never wanting nor wishing to cause such harm
Rather not knowing what such things are
But doing as nature intended it to be, for death,
The end of all ends, to strike the final blow
And fall we all to the pit below, in ground
Where the bodies reek and crumble, but not the souls.
For the souls ascend and are free,
Free from the tyranny of short existence
And alive forever in peace and in rest, no more, no less.
