In My Old Age I Am Learning Humility

IN MY OLD AGE I AM LEARNING HUMILITY

In my old age I am learning Humility
I have not been good enough
I will never realize the dreams I had for my work
I am not good enough
There are others far better than me
In each and everything I do
I hoped I would be better
I thought I was better
I was wrong-

Mediocrity is mine
And I am a minor player
If a player at all
On the stage of Literature-

In my old age I am learning Humility
It hurts a bit,
But I am still here
And I will nonetheless
Write it out to the end.
