In July Poem by Sandra Sando

In July

Rating: 5.0

In July, each day draws me nearer to another year without you
An unwelcome anniversary but there's nothing I can do
To turn back the clock, to bring you back home
To return you to your family the place you belong.

For the last few months I've passed every day
The place where your car, all crumpled, lay
As I pass by your tree, the grandest one there
I say 'hi darling, love you' hoping you'll hear.

On this anniversary like the ones gone before
I'll remember each moment
Until you walked out the door
You looked so handsome and I told you so
'Have a good time sweetheart'
Then I watched you go.

If only I'd known - but what would I do?
Why didn't I sense what would happen to you?
I should have felt something, after all I'm your mum
Instead I waved you goodbye and hoped you'd have fun.

That final weekend is etched in my brain
And on this anniversary I will think once again
Of all that you did and the things that we said,
So many thoughts of you going round in my head.

I hope you'll remember as you watch from above
That my last words to you were words of love.

Writing is an incredible healer along with sharing your words. Sadly the pain is always there as is the need to fulfil your journey in life. Beautiful words.

July is always a difficult month for me. My son died 15 years ago today,22nd July, but the pain is always there. It may ease a little but it never leaves you completely. Any bereaved parent has to find a way to live with this loss. For me, I pray that every day there is something in my life that makes me want to get our of bed.

Any mother who reads this has to of broken down in tears as I did.. One of the simplest but most beautifully sad Elegies I have ever read. So very sorry for your loss.
