In Haunted Dreams Poem by Juan Olivarez

In Haunted Dreams

In haunted dreams I run,
Endlessly with no end in sight.
There is only darkness, no rays of light,
Just stygian blackness, no warming sun.

Malevolent eyes peer into my soul,
From shadowy corners, and picture frames.
Eyes floating in air play starring games,
Sweat covers my body in chilling cold.

I cannot run, I cannot hide,
A terrible dread settles over me.
Impending doom with nowhere to flee,
My heart pounding wildly on the inside.

I run and run but I get nowhere,
Monstrous shapes loom just behind.
All the products of a sleeping mind,
Until I leave the Nightmare's lair.
