In Denial Poem by nicola burkett

In Denial

I think he's living in a state of total self denial
He holds his feelings back, because others see it as vile
Attracted to men and women he would oblige anyone in anyway,
But he can't seem to face the fact that has also gay
The road to hell he walks upon will be forever un-ending
But his course would shift if he would only stop pretending
If only he could be himself, and shout the words out load
I'm gay, I like both women and men and that it makes him proud
How long will he be able to disguise, or avoid the fact?
I guess he's scared of how people will react.
All he ever wanted to do was to get on with his life
But the nagging secret inside his brain cuts deep like a knife.
So instead of using the key, to emerge from his closet of denial
He will keep pretending as long as people see gay as being sick & vile
