In Dem Times



In dem times
Der were crawlin' fountains
And bol' runners
Who moved in de grooves
Of uncertain roads,
Some trump'd up ways
Had been comin' towards de way
But I'd been goin' my own way
Stead'ly climbin' stead'ly movin'
In de way of de Lawd-
Ye my head had ben heavy
An' my eyes had ben weary,
But by de good Lawd's grace
I was at de waters and I could drank
I could sip deeply all de day long-
