In A Highland Village Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

In A Highland Village

In the northern highlands
in a remote village
a goldsmith set up shop
by a mountain stream

He labored many a day
fashioning things of gold
in filigree and lattice

The king sent word
to bring the artisan
to create a crown
for his bride

The artisan wrought
in his smoky chamber
a resplendent crown
a diadem of diamonds
set in hammered gold
and presented it
to the king

Word went out
to gather forthwith
to witness a coronation
and a knighting
of the artisan of gold
