Immortality Poem by Ibrahim Enitan Eniola Olubiyi

Immortality

Immortality...
Immortality...the souls of men crave
Forever...the preferred man's view of life
His desire so conspicuously displayed in his front,
Yet, its means is so bizarre
Behold! man eschews his uttermost desire...
Immortality...

Immortality...
Had its means so easy,
Immortals all would've been
At the sight of seemingly life threatening circumstance
A solid way out,
This would have been
Yet, its means is lethal
Willy-nilly, to this realm all must go one day,
Immortality...

Immortality...
My soon to be status,
I know not when this form I will assume
Never had I thought you will come so soon,
I beheld thee at the speed of light
There in my front stand thee
At the moment I least expected
Art thou come for my transformation?
But your means was both painful and unexpected
What a way to have been transformed!
Immortality...

Immortality...
When last thou beckon on me,
As shocking as thy appearance was,
I still could not fathom
Why and how I was not transformed
It's incredibly shocking!
What kept me alive?
Who preserved my wretched soul?
Of what value is my mortal soul to thee
Oh! Master of creation?
My life flashed right in front of me,
Yet, I was not transformed
Why oh! Lord of creation? Why?
Immortality...

Immortality...
Why was I delivered from its paws and jaws,
Even though I had been taken in all the way?
Oh! God of Purpose
Was it purpose?
Could it be that I am yet to fulfill purpose?
A miracle my deliverance it is,
A mystery of the first order
I have not a logical answer yet
Immortality...

Immortality...
My way thou will call and come again,
I fear thou not...
One thing pray I thee,
Oh! Lord of Purpose,
Renew thou my strength,
Empower and equip me with wisdom
And all that is required to fulfill
The purpose of my creation
Grant that I may live daily to give thee joy
Oh! God of purpose!
And one more thing, oh! Immortal and invisible God...
Thank You...
Thank You for a second chance...
Thank you for your mercy...
Oh! Immortal and invisible Lord!
Immortality...

Immortality...
From the time beyond, beyond...
From the land beyond, beyond...
A land so often talked about...
Yet none had come back from it...
The final destination of all...
Willy-nil ly, all must return
To the land beyond, beyond
Unannounced, we all must go
To the time beyond, beyond
Immortality...so crave all mortals...
Immortality...so must all return...
Immortality...
