Ije Poem by Maureen Alikor

Ije

I walked
and walked.
I grew weary in
walking
but walk on I must.

I seek a bird,
it can't be found
at a glance
for it's a lively bird-
hopping from tree branch
to tree branch.

It was a free bird indeed,
one day it landed-
in my already intended
trap.

I walked and walked
till I met what I sought.
I never remained static-
I kept walking.

Alas,
I arrived.
Back to where I started.
This journey was worth it,
indeed I found my bird-
a free bird indeed.
