If You Really, Truly Love Me Poem by Julianna O'Bar

If You Really, Truly Love Me

Rating: 5.0

If you really, truly love me,
Will you answer just one thing?
What is it that you claim you see?
What's the joy I could bring?

I don't think myself that pretty,
Nor in that high demand.
Are you sure it's not from pity
We're standing hand in hand?

My heart is full of broken glass,
The friends and loves unnumbered.
The pain in my chest will not pass
As I have often wondered.

They all said the same as you,
That I am all they'd need,
But, gradually, away they flew.
My heart, alone, would bleed.

But the world wants to be gay,
Won't like seeing despair.
The face that I put on each day
Is never mine, I swear.

If you really, truly love me,
Just answer what I ask.
Did you love me, look more closely?
Did you see through my mask?
