If You Cannot Say Something Good About Another Person Poem by Francis Duggan

If You Cannot Say Something Good About Another Person

If you cannot say something good about another person say nothing at all
Those wise words are worthy quite worthy of recall
Though I amongst many such a pearl of wisdom ignore
Enlightenment to my mind does find a closed door
What we dislike in others in our own selves we see
A wise one said that but it sure wasn't me
The wise of the feelings of others aware
And with their words are prudent but the wise they are rare
I hate words like bum and loser when used in a derogatory way
Of those who with their words put down others one can only say
That they are people burdened by a sense of low self esteem
Above the ordinary some cannot rise it does seem
If you cannot say something good about another person say nothing at all
Yes those wise words are words well worthy of recall.
