If The Need Arises Poem by Raj Dronamraju

If The Need Arises

Of all that I wanted in life but did not get
This was the one that disappointed me the most
Left me rough and tumble, settling for scraps
Outdoor man in an indoor society
Just waiting to be called up to complete a task or fulfil a role
That's the moment I became a living being

Of all that I tried for in life but failed to obtain
This was the one that made me feel the most empty
Did not complete any of the plans for growth
And became a husk gradually losing shape and posture
But if the need arises, the dead plant germinates
Now I'm waiting for someone to ask something of me
That's the moment I am conceived

I am waiting for someone to need me
Just to ask or at least respond with enthusiasm when asked
Not to be part of strangers wrestling a place in line
A line leading in an opposite direction, person after person with their backs turned away
How no one was open to getting to know me better
Of all that I observed of life, this is what saddened me the most
