If Only...(Shakespearean Sonnet) Poem by Latasha Gregory

If Only...(Shakespearean Sonnet)

I smile to hide the pain deep within me
I laugh to keep the tears from rushing out
Inside I wish to let it all go free
No one understands what this is about

People always say I'm one-of-a-kind
They'd never imagine me being cold
If only they knew what runs through my mind
It's like a timebomb ready to explode

It seems as if life stabbed me in the back
And sometimes I gotta ask myself why
Self-restraint is what I appear to lack
I finally break down and start to cry

If only I had the strength to believe
If only I had the heart to achieve
