If I Knew Poem by piumi wijenayake

If I Knew

If I knew
If I knew that
This was the last time
I, see your beautiful smile
I, would have made you to smile one more time

If I knew that
This was the last time
You, call me dad,
I, would have recorded it

If I knew that
You won't come back
I would have explained to you
What do you really meant to me

If I knew that
This was my last chance
To, hold your little hands
Dearest, I would have hold it more tightly

If I knew that
Your journey comes to an end,
And, this was the last time you embraced me
I would have embraced you more than once

My dearest daughter, If I knew that
This was the last time
You, would say that you loved me
I would have recorded it
