If I Could Take A Laxative Poem by Fred Babbin

If I Could Take A Laxative

Don't you like the rhyming?
I'm a little nuts from all the crap i've been reading.

If I could take a laxative
and s**t out poetry
I would, but I cannot.
My vocabulary is
too small for that.
So I write poetry
But my vocabulary
is too small for that-
that is, to keep me satisfied.
I'm not Ezra Pound, the crazy owl
Or Allen Ginsberg who wrote 'Howl'
I have no forlorn love
Or other customary subject poets write about..
If I had a blackberry,
I would eat it,
And not make poetic commentary
About it.
On the other hand—
Maybe I can yet create
A nicely crafted poem about
A blackberry, that I ate,
But please don't wait
too long for it.
