If I Could Only Love You Poem by John W. McEwers

If I Could Only Love You

Rating: 5.0

Would you live inside me
if I cleaned the place up?
If I worked out on a schedule
and junky foods I gave up?
If I could only share my space with you
my world would be complete
and if owning your laugh was my job
my soul would be replete
with splendor

If only I could see your pupils dilate in the sun
If only you could be forever my only number one
If wise men say that fools are dopes and lovers dopey
Should I be just bland and mopey?

Or should I clean this house up
so you can move in?

If I could have you by my side
while eating cake and pie
If I could share a smile with you
and still look you in the eye

If brains were made to wrap around these problems that we share
I'd tie mine in a bow right around you.
