If I Could Hold Your Heart Poem by Lora Colon

If I Could Hold Your Heart

Rating: 5.0

If I could hold your heart close to mine
I would know what sorrows you bear,
And I would claim your pain as my own,
All that you'd allow me to share

If you would but let me hold your heart,
A fire on the hearth I could lay;
In the shadows of these sunset hours
Cold and darkness would fade away

If I could keep your heart but a day,
So accustomed to love it would grow
That if you should ask it to return,
It would shout a resounding 'No! '

If I could lay your heart upon mine
All your woes I'd seek to smother;
Maybe, just maybe, your pain and mine
Might annihilate each other

If your heart would cuddle close with mine,
Dreams long dead would once more see light;
Will we deprive our hearts their last fling.....
Or let them soar in fancy's flight!

A wonderful poem, Lora. A truly commendable sentiment expressed here, the compassion, the caring, sharing qualities of a loving nature.
