If I Could Have Walked In Your Shoes Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

If I Could Have Walked In Your Shoes

Instead of wearing combat boots
trucking through the sands of Iraq

or the snow of the Ardennes in forty-four
the fetid jungles of Guadalcanal

the rice paddies of Korea
or the swamps of the Mekong

I would have been among the few
like you who knew better
than to bear the burden
on battlefields
like us
for the likes of you!
