If Could In Words Poem by Hal Caufield

If Could In Words

If in words I could,
I’d use them to describe heaven’s gate.
And how I crossed them with you last night.

If in words I could,
I’d sing to the love you brought
To my speechless, fluttering heart.

If in words I could,
I’d write the deepest sonnet,
Proving once and for all my love.

But I cannot with poor words,
So I will use my every strength
To prove my adoration til
To death my life succumbs.
