Ideal Poem by Thomas MacDonagh

Ideal

Fragment of a perfect plan
Is the mortal life of man:
Beauty alone can make it whole,
Beauty alone can help the soul
To labour over the island span
Lying between seas that roll
Darkly, forward and behind:
Beauty beatific will bind
The mortal and the immortal mind.
