I Wonder Poem by Francis Duggan

I Wonder

I wonder if there's a Heaven as some tell us
Do the beautiful winged angels fly
Above the woods and sunlit gardens
Of their Utopia in the sky

And sing with the larks in the morning
Their carols of love and of joy
Long years ago I dreamt of such things of great beauty
when I was an innocent boy

Back then I was nearer to Heaven
Far nearer than I am today
Since I have lost the innocence of childhood
Heaven from me seems much further away

I wonder if there is a Heaven
Do birds sing on the blossoming trees
And do the rivers from their homes in the mountains
Sing their way to the Heavenly seas.
