I Wonder

As I sit here day by day I wonder why,
why you don't call why you don't write.
I sit here day by day beaten and plundered by these emotions inside, wanting to tell you but I can't.

As the days go by I wonder,
I ask if you really care,
or if you ever really cared,
or if you ever will.
I wonder.

I sit here day by day and wonder how to play the game.
To try and get you to like me,
or how to look for other girls because I don't know how.
I also wonder having been told by others,
that one day I'll find another.
I wonder.

I sit here day by day hoping and wondering
that someday you'll come to me,
and we will be together.
As I sit here now I wonder.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

I wrote this poem in January 2000 after a very serious heart break. I'd had a very creative fit the spring
and early summer the year before. For reasons that don't matter here I wrote nothing in the fall or winter of 1999.
Deep despair was what prompted and inspired this work. It was the last one I would write until December 2007.
The only work that remains from that period. Over 200 works gone but nothing spectacular.
A very special someone still has a few and I hope she keeps and treasures them forever.

Poem of the Day

poet Paul Laurence Dunbar

The mist has left the greening plain,
The dew-drops shine like fairy rain,
The coquette rose awakes again
Her lovely self adorning.

The Wind is hiding in the trees,
