I Wish You Could Poem by Rowan Truebody

I Wish You Could

Rating: 5.0

I wish you could see, the way that I do
Back down the years
When it was just me and you

I remember a man full of life and of fire
Nothing could faze him, no battle too tough
Strong and magnificent, yet gentle and kind
Loving my body, meeting my mind

I hope you recall as clear as I can
The moments I’ll hold, for every always
The years and the months
The hours and days

Breaking up oranges to show three into nine
Scaring off bed sharks, Candlelit hair cuts,
and so many times of laughing all night

Lying by water watching the stars
Crying and laughing over broken down cars
Dancing till dawn with no-one around
Dreaming & planning for a life that was ours

I know you’ve forgotten so much that we had
And the loss of it all makes my heavy heart sad
But then I remember the smiles and love
And catch myself hearing “it’ll never be dull”

Nothing can change the things that we did
Time cannot fade the pictures I hold
Years won’t erase the things that were said
The joy that was shared, the things that we felt

So I know deep inside that when I look back
I’ll remember enough to bring it alive
For you and for me
