I Was First (A Lament) Poem by L.J. Miller

I Was First (A Lament)

Alice followed me down the rabbit hole
She tumbled after me
Alice followed me down the rabbit hole
And she got the story
Alice followed me down the rabbit hole
She almost drowned us with her tears
Alice followed me down the rabbit hole
She was a mess of fears
Alice wasn’t the chosen one
I was first
But my tale has been told to none
She is my curse
Lewis loved her more
So I was lost in history
She could barely open a door
But she got the glory
Just a little girl
Small and nothing
I found a whole world
But was forgotten
Alice followed me down the rabbit hole
She tumbled after me
Alice followed me down the rabbit hole
And she got the story
