I Want To Be Pigeon Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

I Want To Be Pigeon

I have long
Very long
Wanted to, be pigeon
Together, regardless
Regardless of age, size
Gender, sex
Sex and race
Race, color, background
In a cage, on a line or the ground

They are all equal
Equal; like friends
Eat, the need
No greed
No saving
No hiding
No secret
No ego
No bully
Observing loyalty
To spouse, partner
Ignoring puffed feather
Of the male, his offer
To attract, cause divorce
She knows well
The male game
‘Hit and run'
Just for fun
Sweet words
"I love you."
"You, my heart"
And so on

"Go to hell."
She replies
But polite
Female's way
(Diplomat)
Ignores him
Goes her way

But makes scene
Of her sex
With her mate
"Thank you."
She says, posed
Stretched get her wings
Sweeps, cleans, broom-like
Tip of tail
Like bride wearing white
When marching to altar

I see us like pigeons
Not always, everywhere
Our way sure, incorrect

Mixed we are
Age, sex, race
But each is occupied
Cell, notebook; and Wi-Fi
Unaware of others

Yet in all
Work for ‘one'
We, slaves
We in need
One percent has greed
Same percent in power
‘One' orders
‘We' obey

We, ostrich
We, partridge
With our heads
In the sand, in snow

I still have my hope
"Be pigeon" is my dream
But I want
"The to be right and be wise"

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I used to have pigeons from childhood. They amuse me and I love many of their characters; but not all. The mentioned characters are among what I like. I have also been angry with our patriarchal system...
