I Want Poem by DAVID TERRY

I Want

Please forgive my indulgence in this verbose vanity
As I express these desires to preserve my sanity
That at long last I take this time to record
What I want from you now as our love’s great reward

I want…

I want to love you and be loved by you
I want the moon, stars, and heavens about you
I want to hold you forever and reside in your heart
I want morning coffee in bed, evening wine on the porch
I want motorcycle rides, Sunday drives to church, and long trips together
I want to wake up beside you, go to sleep with my arm wrapped around you
I want Christmas Eve and Morning with you
I want to pray with you, cry with you, laugh with you
I want to be fascinated by you, cheerlead for you, call you my lady
I want to be dad to your children while dad to my own
I want bad takeout food and the best steaks in the world
I want to grow old with you, be yours, and be with you
I want exclusive rights to making love and making such memories
I want to be with you when we are sick, wrinkled, and grey
I want to fight and struggle for things we hold dear
I want to watch old movies and corny TV shows with you
I want to be your best friend, your closest confidant, your partner and lover
I want to be chosen by you because I chose you too
I want to die for you but live for us
I want us, today and tomorrow
I want you and only you for the rest of my life
I want you and only you
Always
