I Wait For A Few Small Words Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Wait For A Few Small Words

I WAIT FOR A FEW SMALL WORDS

I wait for a few small words
They come slowly
I strive to be alive in mind and heart

The day has not begun yet
But I have already had many more days and nights
Than I will ever have again

I must try
I must continue

Life begins in pain and ends in pain
And continues in all its difficulty

Somewhere somehow
In the course of the day
Joy and light and life
Will come again
Hope also

So we live so we die
Creatures of the few bright moments
of the middle.
