I'Ve Broken A Feather Poem by alex haywood

I'Ve Broken A Feather

Rating: 5.0

I've broken a feather
can't fly anymore
the winds that once carried me
won't work their magic
I used to soar blindly
on the tiniest drafts
my feathers full, intact
confident the breeze
would keep me aloft
looking down on the ground
seeing indescribable beauty
all around
not a thought that the air
could break it's promise
to conspire with me
to mock gravity
the other birds though
taught me suspicion
I've seen what happens
when you flap your wings
with eyes closed
how the ground shifts
betrays your senses
moves from underneath
the landscape changes
now I see the air through
different color glasses
I've broken a feather
can't take off on faith
can't trust the wind
anymore
