I Shall Rise Poem by Sasanka Sekhar Panda

I Shall Rise

You strike my head with
millions of thunderbolts
you take away the earth
from under my feet
throw me down to the
dark dungeon,
snatch away my speech
by cutting my tongue
throw me down in the
fathomless ocean
mutilate and sever
my body into pieces
float my body
in the tidal waves,
still I shall rise
to protest against
your tyranny
your oppression
your hatred
your debauchery
and your dictatorship.
I am the child of democracy
the upholder of
truth and justice.
