I Saw A Black Child Poem by Gcobani Istovic Kamana

I Saw A Black Child

I saw a Black Child
Who's got blood in eyes
Cracked as clay
And scaled like a fish

Under puberty
He discovered poverty
Through apartheid
He became homeless

I saw a Black Child
In a hole
Carried hope against hope
Nor free, he flees for help

He was more in sorrow
Than in anger.
So he made a smash and grab
Although it went up in smoke

I saw a Black Child
Crying louder than
The abused wives
When he was taken for a ride

He never said die
Although he was taken
For isolation
For the rest of his life
