I Remember It Well Poem by Craig Lincoln

I Remember It Well

I have some stories I wish to tell
My life in memories like waters from a well
Did they happen in just this way
Or are these moments like scenes from a play
In 51 as a Cleveland DJ
I told them 'rock and roll' is here to stay
It was 53 with Norgay beside
I reached the summit with a steady stride
October 57 the space race I began
When Grechko's maths I finished by hand
In 1960 with John and Paul
Mersey side music we exposed to all
December 64 to the United Nations I demand
Apartheid can longer be allowed to stand
It was Capetown in 1967 as I recall
Christiaan needed my help with a heart to install
Apparently I muddled up my line
When on the moon I stepped in 1969
In 72 it was deep throat and me
Tricky Dicky was down on one knee
To publish my writing no longer to tarry
I started in 74 with a book called Carrie
George I said it's 77
What about a western set in the heavens
A bullet I took in March 81
Allowed a presidents term to run
Ben asked me for help in 1983
I told him a secret 'the keel is the key'
June 87 as I recall
I told young Gorby 'tear down this wall'
My 'The splendor of truth' promulgated in 93
A tome for the ages written for all to see
With Wilmut and Campbell and a box of new tricks
We ensured Dolly was born in July of 96
March of 99 with Jones and Piccard
We floated round the world then landed in Africa's backyard
Full to the brim one could say
Of an extraordinary life lived day by day
To me however you may see it
Those days were mine to remember albeit
