I Remember...

I remember when mistakes were all but fault,
Their simple earnings and reasons are all but distraught.
The carelessness and freedoms of the ones who don’t know
Were as frequent as the river fish that do come and go.

I am happy that memory in my mind is not told.

I remember when wants were all but misleading,
Their simple words and actions were all but pleading.
The carelessness and freedoms of the ones who don’t do
Were as numerous as the weather and the wind that it blew.

I am happy that memory in my mind is not told.

I remember when their time had all but a worry,
Their simple plans and doings are all not in a hurry.
The carelessness and freedoms of the ones who don’t know
Were as frequent as the river fish that do come and go.

I am happy that memory in my mind is not told.

I remember when children went out to go play,
Their simple games of innocence are exactly as I say.
The carelessness and freedoms of the ones who don’t heed
Were as numerous as the greed and the want and the need.

I am happy that memory in my mind is not told.

I remember when I was as slapdash as he,
Their simple earnings and reasons were not as grand as me.
The carelessness and freedoms of the ones who don’t know
Were as farfetched and stupid as I’d ever want to go.

I am happy that memory in my mind is not told.
