I Promise Poem by Megan Tucker

I Promise

Rating: 5.0

You should have left,

packed up that heart you stole,

commiting theft.

You left a hole in my chest,

but it was for the very best,

Because Efrain found my heart and now I can rest.

Looking back now I wonder what I was thinking,

what I was faking,

what I was taking.

I honestly don’t think I was thinking.

You should have left sooner,

call me a late bloomer,

but I was never the assumer.

I only assumed what I was told.

What happened there between us was something I didn’t want to unfold.

Seasons change and now it’s cold.

I’m cuddled up next to Efrain,

laying in bed listening to a passing train,

completely over you and all your pain,

which was nothing but experience to gain.

For awhile now,

you were always on my mind.

It was you in every poem,

it was you in every rhyme.

….But this is the last one I promise
