I Pretend That I Am Young Again

Rating: 5.0

I PRETEND THAT I AM YOUNG AGAIN

I pretend that I am young again
And just setting out
And that I know I am going to change the world
With my words
And create a kind of great literature
No one has known before-

I pretend I am young again
But when I begin to write
I hear my old pages within me
I slowly tortuously reread
The dreams and the failures
And I know I am not young again-

I know Beginning is really just holding on
And ‘pretending to be young'
One small maneuver
In a long battle
Whose end is certainly determined.
