I Never Got To Know You Poem by Brooke McMinn

I Never Got To Know You

I never got to know you
And because of this I'm sad
Its tragic to think
That I never knew my own Grandad.

I was just a baby
When you passed away
But from what I am told
It was with me you would always play.

There are pictures of us
Together, o' so happy
And even as a baby
I was a little snappy.

I would take your glasses
And put them on my face
And even though I don't know you
In my heart you will always have a place.

You never said a word
As you lay there dying, slowly and in pain
i have been told many times
That I am just like you, vain.

You worked so hard at what you did
And never gave up hope
But when you lost that final battle
It's amazing how you coped.

You're peaceful now
Resting in your grave
We all love you still
For everything you gave.

I'm grown up now
About to be out on my own
But, Grandad, please can you tell me
Why did you have to go?
