I Mourn For You Poem by Kelsea Osterman

I Mourn For You

You were but a foolish man when you were younger.
Given a warning that you did not heed.
You killed a man you didn't know.
And married a woman who would one day kill us all.
When this woman who I called mother found out the truth,
Found out your little secret.
She took her own life and that should have been it.
But you couldn't just leave it at that could you.
No because you didn't heed the warning
You fulfilled the prophecy.
You married your mother and killed your father.
And then you left us.
Us your children.
Your darling, helpless children.
You left me but a child to raise my sister.
To support my brothers.
And to stand by my new king.
You were my father,
And I trusted you to be one.
But you were selfish.
You did the one thing I could never forgive.
You left me here, all alone.
And now I sit beside your head stone and mourn.
Mourn over the loss of you.
Mourn over the loss of the one I call mother.
After you left *Polyneices* was too young
To rule our beloved kingdom.
But soon he would become king and
By doing that it was his undoing.
He lost his life in a battle that no one will forget.
The gods took not just one brother from me that day but two.
And now I am forced to sit here once again
And mourn over the loss of my brothers.
But I am to only honor one.
And it is all because of you.
But it doesn't matter.
For you are gone and I will continue
To sit by your stone and mourn.
Over the loss of my poor darling father.

Very deep and in some places disturbing. I can sense a lot of pain in this...I am sorry for your loss too. God Bless you....and keep writing. It's very therapeutic.

I love this poem, the way you communicate your emotions are very strong. I may not have felt your pain but your writing makes it difficult to ignore. Poetry's you're catharsis, keep going.

This is certainly a complex situation of amazing loss and personal suffering and grief. Not much more I can say. A powerful emotional journey shared here.
