I Make My Own Decisions Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

I Make My Own Decisions

Not to take commitment ceremonies,
Seriously.
Or feel them felt deeply,
In the exchanging of vows...
To profess within listening distance,
How one's independence will be kept.
And accepted not to make any difference,
Will eventually leave that one alone...
To have all the independence they wish,
With it never again needing to be expressed...
By someone who leaves,
Not even a raised eyebrow.

'Where are you going,
With all of your things packed? '

~I too can make decisions.~

'But...
What about 'our' relationship? '

~Which one?
The one we had?
Or the one you haven't divorced from yourself? ~

'I only said,
I make my own decisions.
And being in a relationship,
Shouldn't change that to make a difference.'

~There is a difference.
What I seek is a shared relationship.
And what you need is to feel competitive.~
